Proud partner of the US Navy
The primary fields of activity for the US subsidiary ATLAS North America (ANA) are all topics concerning underwater warfare, with a special focus on mine hunting and also autonomous and remote-controlled underwater vehicles.
ATLAS North America’s main facility is located in Yorktown, in the US State of Virginia – near the US Navy’s Atlantic Fleet Headquarters, Norfolk Naval Base, and NATO’s Allied Command for Transformation. In addition, ANA operates an office in Panama City, Florida, adjacent to the Naval Surface Warfare Center of the US Navy.
SeaFox in the service of the US Navy
For mine warfare, the Navy of the United States relies on SeaFox, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) developed by ATLAS ELEKTRONIK that is able to neutralise mines quickly and efficiently once they have been detected. Because ANA performs all the necessary maintenance and servicing tasks and also has its own integration section, it is well on the way, through component procurement for SeaFox in the USA, to becoming a completely licensed manufacturer. The corresponding production and integration facilities have been in operation since January 2015, following successful completion of all technology and quality audits in the field.
Here the ANA team is pursuing a clear objective: ATLAS North America is to become the centre of excellence for mine hunting in the service of the US Navy. Besides the independent SeaFox production, the further development of this core product is therefore also on the list of ANA developmental targets.
Sonar competence
Another field of competence is given by the side-scan sonars, which are able to supply high-resolution images of the seabed and objects located there with an almost three-dimensional effect. This growth in know-how is the result of a strategic acquisition: the company Marine Sonic, a specialist for side-scan sonars, was purchased by ATLAS North America in 2014.
